Ask any Chennaite about their favorite beach, and Besant Nagar (affectionately called "Bessie") will top the list. It's not the longest beach, nor the quietest, but it has something special – character. From early morning joggers to late-night couples, from food vendors to street performers, Bessie is alive 24/7.
But what makes Bessie truly unique is its gaming culture. Unlike other beaches where you just walk and eat, Bessie offers entertainment. Street vendors set up games that have been entertaining Chennaiites for decades. These aren't fancy arcade games – they're simple, traditional, and incredibly addictive!
THE STREET GAMES OF BESSIE BEACH
The moment you step onto Besant Nagar Beach, you're greeted by colorful game stalls. Each one promises fun, challenges your skills, and tests your luck. We decided to try them all – from the classics we played as kids to some we'd never seen before.
Ring Toss: The classic! Throw rings onto bottles and win prizes. Sounds easy? Wait till you try it! The KBKG crew's attempts at this "simple" game resulted in more misses than hits, lots of trash talk, and one surprisingly skilled member who dominated the game (watch to find out who!).
Balloon Shooting: Armed with air guns, we aimed at balloons. The competitive spirit came out in full force here. Some of us had surprisingly good aim; others couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. The vendor's commentary on our shooting skills was the best part!
Lucky Draw: Pure chance, no skill required. Pick a number, spin the wheel, and hope for the best. The suspense, the anticipation, the groans when you lose, and the celebration when you win – it's all captured on camera!
CHILDHOOD MEMORIES UNLOCKED
Playing these games wasn't just about winning prizes – it was about nostalgia. Each game brought back memories of childhood visits to the beach with family. Remember begging your parents for "just one more game"? Remember the pride of winning a small toy? We relived all of it.
The best part? Sharing these memories with each other. Each KBKG member had their own beach game stories, and hearing them while playing the same games decades later was incredibly special. It's moments like these that remind us why we do what we do – to create and preserve memories.
THE VENDORS' STORIES
We didn't just play the games; we talked to the vendors who run them. These aren't just businesspeople – they're part of Bessie's heritage. Some have been setting up their stalls for 20+ years! They've seen generations of families come and play.
Their stories are fascinating. They told us about the evolution of beach games, how preferences have changed over the years, and the joy they get from seeing people smile. One vendor said, "When someone wins and their face lights up, that's my prize." Beautiful, right?
BEACH VIBES & CHENNAI CULTURE
Besant Nagar Beach is more than a location – it's a cultural phenomenon. It represents Chennai's laid-back yet vibrant spirit. Where else can you find college students playing cricket next to families having picnics, while couples walk hand-in-hand and vendors sell everything from corn to sunglasses?
The diversity of people at Bessie is amazing. Everyone's welcome, everyone's equal, and everyone's there for the same reason – to enjoy life. That's the Chennai spirit, and Bessie embodies it perfectly.
THE FOOD SCENE
No beach visit is complete without food! Bessie's food scene is legendary. From the famous sundal (spiced chickpeas) to fresh coconut water, from masala corn to ice cream, the options are endless.
We, of course, tried everything. The running commentary on each food item, the debates about which vendor makes the best sundal, and the inevitable food coma – it's all in the video. Special shoutout to the bhel puri that was so good, we went back for seconds!
SUNSET AT BESSIE
They say Besant Nagar has the best sunsets in Chennai, and they're not wrong. As the sun set over the Bay of Bengal, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink, we took a moment to just... be. No games, no food, no noise – just us, the beach, and the sunset.
These quiet moments are rare in our content, but they're important. They remind us (and hopefully you) to pause, appreciate beauty, and be grateful for the simple pleasures in life. Plus, the sunset made for some amazing shots!
BEACH GAMES CHAMPIONSHIP
Being KBKG, we couldn't just play games casually – we had to turn it into a competition! We created our own "Beach Games Championship" with points for each game. The winner gets bragging rights and the title of "Beach Games Champion."
The competition was fierce! From strategic ring tosses to lucky wheel spins, everyone gave it their all. The final scores were surprisingly close, making the championship even more exciting. Who won? You'll have to watch to find out!
CONNECTING WITH LOCALS
One of the best parts of filming at Bessie was interacting with locals. We met regular beach-goers who shared their own Bessie stories, tourists experiencing the beach for the first time, and even some fans who recognized us!
These spontaneous interactions added so much to the video. Real people, real reactions, real connections – that's what makes content authentic. Plus, getting to represent Chennai and its culture to a wider audience is always an honor.

ENVIRONMENTAL NOTE
While we had fun at the beach, we also noticed the plastic waste issue. We made sure to clean up after ourselves and even did a small beach cleanup. It's our responsibility to keep Bessie beautiful for future generations.
If you visit Besant Nagar Beach (or any beach), please be mindful of your waste. Use the bins, avoid single-use plastics, and if you see trash, pick it up. Let's all do our part to protect our beaches!

Best Time: Evening (4-7 PM) for games and sunset. Early morning (6-8 AM) if you want peace and quiet.
What to Bring: Cash for games and food, sunscreen, and a camera for memories!
Must-Try: Ring toss game, sundal from the beach vendors, and definitely catch the sunset.
Parking: Can be challenging on weekends. Arrive early or use public transport.
Safety: The beach is generally safe, but keep an eye on your belongings and don't venture too far into the water.
